BIO PLEDGES TO MAINTAIN PEACEFUL ELECTIONS

By: Mohamed Massaquoi

As the national desire to elect the Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio as the next President of the Republic of Sierra Leone continues to gain momentum, thousands of voters on Monday, 26th February joined the Sierra Leone People’s Party in climaxing its campaign calendar in the Western Area. The rally which spanned from Jui to the National Stadium brought voters from both ends of the Capital City who were in high spirit to listen to the message of hope from the SLPP Presidential Candidate.

In his usual cool disposition, the Retired Brigadier Bio thanked the audience for the massive turnout which he said indicates that the people of Freetown just like other parts of the country are tired of the present suffering and are ready to change the narrative by overwhelmingly voting the SLPP back into governance.

Bio further committed himself and the SLPP to a peaceful and violent free elections stating that he sees politics as a battle of ideas and policies rather than that of the fist. He mentioned that as a nation we should avoid engaging in practices that have the propensity to undermine both our democracy and fragile peace “As a party that has fought so hard for the restoration of peace and democracy in this country, we will continue to commit ourselves to peace as well as safeguarding it,” he promised.

The former Head of State vowed that while his party remains committed to a peaceful election, they will not accept any election result that is short off credibility and fairness stating that his party will defend democracy in its entirety as well as resist any act that will destroy the country’s democratic values. He therefore called on the various Election Management Bodies to conduct themselves in a professional manner so as to maintain the peace and stability of the country.

The Presidential hopeful described the APC as the source of problems for this nation stating that the APC has always failed to provide competent and quality leadership to this nation. “The APC government should be blamed for the sufferings of the people as it was confirmed by their Presidential Candidate Samura Kamara in the just concluded Presidential Debate,” the putative next President said.

Bio revealed that he has the requisite manpower at his disposal to fix up all the structures that have been broken courtesy of the APC misrule. He described himself as the candidate who offers the best opportunities to Sierra Leoneans than any other Presidential Candidate and therefore called on voters to support his quest for the Presidency for a better nation.
