The leading Presidential Candidate for the 2018 General Elections, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio has promised voters that his presidency will bring better conditions of living to the people of Sierra Leone. Bio made this statement on Monday,  22nd January 2018 while addressing voters at the Red Pump and Grey Bush Communities in Freetown during an on the spot visit.

He described the present condition of living in the country as deplorable and unacceptable considering the plethora of natural resources the nation is blessed with “As a nation, we cannot continue to suffer like this because we have all what it takes to enjoy similar conditions of living just like any developed nation. But this is not happening because of bad governance and irresponsible handling of public funds,” he stated.

He opined that one of the reasons responsible for the massive suffering in the country is because the APC administration has destroyed every state institution citing the educational sector as the most affected one which he said that has led to the drastic fall in the standard of education in the country thereby leading to the poor output of students in public examinations. He described the situation as unfortunate and needed to be looked into urgently “Education is the bedrock to any successful nation. The simplest way to destroy a nation is to neglect its educational system which is exactly what the APC government has succeeded in doing over the last ten years,” the SLPP Presidential Candidate averred.

As a man who puts youth affairs among his key priority areas, the Presidential hopeful went on to condemn the APC government for their inability to provide adequate jobs for Sierra Leoneans especially the youth leading to high level of youth unemployment which he deemed as worrisome. He however promised that his government will change that narrative by providing accessible and lucrative jobs for youth devoid of their political, tribal or regional affiliations.

Bio said he knows the problems facing this country and has the best solutions to solving them “Now, it is clear that change is inevitable, thus, the APC will be going out of governance. Interestingly, everyone wants to lead this change including those who are on record to had earlier on renounced Sierra Leone for other countries, but if there is anybody well placed to lead this change based on experience and a proven track record, then it must be me. This is because I am the only Presidential Candidate who has led before in a more crucial period than now and who has the requisite institutional knowledge to move this nation forward,” he bluffed.
