The Presidential Candidate for the Sierra Leone People’s Party, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio has assured tens of thousands of supporters that this time he is ready to protect their votes for the 2018 general elections. Bio made this statement while addressing jubilant supporters at the National Stadium in Freetown on Sunday 22nd October, 2018.
The SLPP flag bearer candidate said he knew that the 2012 elections were stolen from him and warned the Government and the National Electoral Commission to ensure that the actual votes from the people reflect on the ballot box this time around. “I know the last elections were rigged but for the love I have for this country and for you the people, I accepted the results, but this time around, I am ready to protect your votes. I will not accept anything that is not reflective on the wishes of the people,” Bio warned.
While reacting to the death of one of his supporters, Mohammed T. Kanu who was stabbed to death by youths allegedly supporting APC for wiping one of his portraits at Ogu Farm on Saturday 21st October 2017, the former Head of State also used the opportunity to condemn the several incidents of violence and intimidation against his supporters. He called on government to create a conducive platform that can enable the conduct of a peaceful and violent free election as well as dispensing justice equally to all political parties.
Bio ended his address by calling on every Sierra Leonean to join him in his quest for State House adding that he is ready to provide a well disciplined leadership that will cater for the wishes and aspirations of every Sierra Leonean as well as developing the country.
Among a plethora of stakeholders in attendance was Ambassador Foday Yumkella, eldest son of the Yumkella family who pledged his continued support and that of the Yumkella family support to SLPP. Ambassador Yumkella told the crowd “the SLPP is my father’s party and that is where I will continue to be. The Yumkella family will continue to always be around this party.”
Several statements were also made by Party Officials including the dynamic National Chairman and Leader, Dr Prince Harding. The lovely wife of Rtd. Brigadier Bio, Fatima Bio also dazzled the crowd with her eloquence, beauty and charm. Former flagbearer aspirants such as Dr Alie Kabba and Ambassador Umaru B. Wurie also made statements showcasing a very unified SLPP.
The thousands of supporters and Party sympathisers that came out would have sent a clear message to the ruling APC that the SLPP and Bio are determined not to leave any stone unturned in their match towards State House. The massive turnout of supporters in western area will also continue to expose the myth that Bio is not popular in Western Area. It is no surprise that Bio’s message about protecting the votes in the coming elections is very reassuring for voters.
Meanwhile, on Monday 23rd October Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio accompanied by National Chairman and Leader, Dr Prince Harding and other Party Officials visited the bereaved family members and friends of the late Mohammed T Kanu who was stabbed to death at Ogu Farm by alleged APC youths while wiping one of Bio’s campaign banners. As a caring politician, Bio has always made time to honour and show respect to deceased supporters.
