The Presidential Candidate for the Sierra Leone People’s Party, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio has assured members of the security forces that his presidency will bring improved conditions of services to them. Bio made this statement on Friday, 2nd February 2018 while addressing voters at the Kambia Lorry Park in Kambia Town. He members of the security forces deserve better conditions of service considering their hectic services to the society.
He described officers as an integral part to upholding the country’s democratic values. “The security forces are doing extremely good job and must be commended for their service to this nation. My presidency will restore to the security forces the dignity and pride they deserve,” he promised. Coming from a security background, Bio said that security forces can perform better when they are adequately taken care of and promised to revive the security sector.
The SLPP Presidential Candidate further called on security forces especially the Police and Military to resist any form of political interference into their functions citing that their constitutional mandate demands them to be neutral at all times. He said security forces should be seen as bastions in upholding democracy and not as tools to be used by an incumbent government to suppress and intimidate opposition parties and their leaders.
As part of his thank you tour, the former Head of State also visited Bamoi Luma, Rokupr and Tawuya all in the Kambia district. In those communities, Bio promised voters of quality education, youth empowerment and improved conditions of service under his presidency.
